Do you think this could be black mold?
I rent in Florida. Every time it rains hard, especially with high winds (hurricane season) Rain leaks through my front door through small cracks (leaks only a little) and rain leaks under the door. This makes the carpet inside the door is completely soaked. When this happens, I try to enjoy the water with old towels and let air dry. Recently, in recent months, I've been having recurrent respiratory problems. Bronchitis, chest infections, cough, asthma, etc. .. Do not you think there could be mold growing near the door under the carpet and that is what is causing my sudden breathing problems? I'm kind of afraid to pull the carpet to look underneath for mold, because I can rent and I do not want to damage anything. Do you sell any kind of mold test kits that can detect mold in this situation?
I kind of doubt that any mold that may be under the carpet could contribute to respiratory symptoms. While the underside of the carpet is definitely a common place to find mold, not the years most ideal substrate for the growth of the fungal species most toxic and allergenic. And if there's something down there, is pretty well encapsulated so it will not release of spores in the air in the room. But if you research you do, be sure to wear a dust mask tight fit when you pull the carpet or you are exposed a huge cloud of spores if there is something nasty under there. Many people only get sick after trying to find clean the mold, it does not use any respiratory protection, so that in many cases would have been really best left alone. Be careful when pulling the rug or just going to spread the mold spores around the room, open all windows and good ventilation in the room when you do this. If it looks bad down there, pour bleach on the time and arrange for a replacement. You should also consider buying a HEPA filter vacuum, since it is the only type of vacuum to trap mold spores, Vacuums others just spit them in the exhaust. But there may be hidden problems elsewhere. What type of heating and air conditioning do you have? duct systems Forced air is based frequently the source of mold contamination. If you have mold growing anywhere in the system, which is spread throughout the house through the ducts. If you have this type of system, check the air filter driver to see if it is properly placed and changed if necessary. You could try shutting down the few days if possible and see if your symptoms alleviate. You might need a duct cleaning. And there is always the possibility of mold hidden behind the baseboard of growth, within the cavities of the wall and ceiling cavities (especially if you have false ceilings), especially if the building leaks appellants. Just remember, research neglected can make a minimal problem much worse. The only way to really evaluate a mold problem is to sample the air several times to determine air concentrations the mold. The mold is really only a problem when in the air, so that just because the mold can be growing somewhere that is not necessarily affecting air quality. Unfortunately, this can be expensive and you need a trained investigator to conduct air sampling properly. If this is so, is may be able to get the owner to spring for some or all of it.
