Moving into my new room, I immediately noticed a formation of greyish-black substance on the ceiling. It was present in an 8 foot radius of the fan on the ceiling. The thickest concentration of this substance was in the immediate radius of the ceiling fan.
I believed at the time that this was simply dust, primarily due to the fact that the fan had been running in reverse, directing air upward, all winter long. As such, i treated it as dust in my cleaning.
This substance was easy to clean up with swiffer dusting pads. It came off easily without liquid and seemed to leave no residue behind.
About 3 days after this cleaning, I came down with a high fever and sore throat. 3 days later, symptoms subsided. My fear, however, is that this was in fact Toxic Black Mold. Are said symptoms possible in excessive dust inhalation? Should I seek treatment for mold inhalation, or not worry since symptoms have disappeared?
Even if your symptoms have reduced, see your doctor and explain everything; although this could be entirely co-incidental, you are right to be cautious.
If possible and if residue remains, take a sample, scraped in to a boiled/sterilized glass jar; of course cover your face for this.
Best wishes.
