Mold & Mildew
Mold in your home or business can be both dangerous to your health and can also damage materials and personal items.
Because of their ease of growth and health hazards, mold is dangerous and should not be taken lightly. Most molds grow naturally outdoors and can be easily transported in buildings through open windows, ventilation and air conditioning systems, as well as in pets, clothing or shoes. Once inside, mold needs only moisture and a food source, such as lint, ceiling tiles, drywall, insulation, carpets, upholstery, and wood to grow.
Risks Mold health
The health risks caused by mold depends on what type of mold, the amount and degree of exposure and health status of the person at risk. Symptoms of mold can range from negligible to cause allergic reactions and diseases including nasal congestion, eye irritation, difficulty breathing, wheezing, and in rare cases, mold infections in the lung.
There are certain groups of people who are at greater risk when exposed to mold as infants and children, the elderly, pregnant women and people with respiratory diseases, weakened immune systems or who suffer from allergies.
The name "Toxic Mold" is incorrect. There are certain types of mold are toxigenic, meaning they can produce toxins such as mycotoxins, however, the mold itself is not toxic or poisonous. The health risks presented by fungi that produce mycotoxins should be considered like other common types of mold.
Mold Damage Materials
Mold and mildew can stain or discolor many types of materials, and these materials will be ruined overtime if mold is not removed properly. Over time, paper and cardboard mold can disintegrate, and the fabrics are damaged. Note that continuous mold growth may be indicative of moisture conditions favorable for the growth of fungi that cause wood rot and structural damage to your home or business.
If you suspect mold in your home, do not delay in hiring a professional mold inspector to test your home. Once the house has been tested, the inspector will take samples to the laboratory and provide with a rehabilitation protocol.
