Mold: the smallest leak is where it all begins!
That drip drip of the faucet is more than a nuisance, is the precursor of things to come. unpleasantness. It is what begins as a small leak of almost imperceptible provides the perfect environment for mold to thrive. After all, what is more attractive to mold spores drywall damp or wet carpets?
The problem is that small leaks are not detected for so long that the mold has a lot of time to take hold. In fact, you can not even be aware of the leak until you drag a musty odor in your home and fills. Depending on where the flight originated, you may not know for several months. For example, imagine a small leak in the basement. The damp and dark environment perfect for mold broth. But how often are you down? Weeks? Months? Years? What is the problem with a small leak and a lot of mold? In the worst case, mold can be toxic. It is clearly preferable to prevent mold to deal with its consequences. Since mold can begin from small leaks, the first order of business is to detect all leaks and plug them, no matter how small.
Go to a room on a mission. Their mission: to thoroughly inspect for leaks. In the first run through, the tool should only be a pencil and pad. Thus, not distracted by postponing repairs and inspection of the rest of the house. In each room, check the plumbing, as well as areas where water normally contains between them:
• Low sinks
· Some appliances (dishwashers, washing machines, heaters Water, air conditioners)
· The water pipes (do not forget to line ice maker refrigerator)
Degrees around doors and windows
· Toilets
· The showers and baths
· Plant Basement: windows, sinks, exposed pipes, walls (check for leaks)
· Foundations (Look for cracks and leaks)
· Roof terrace (look for signs of leaks, loose tiles, culverts messy)
As you are inspecting the house, use your nose. If the room smells musty, this is a sign that a leak is present. Once you have complied with all the leaks, no matter how small, make a plan to repair them. If you are the "do it yourself, a quick trip to the hardware store is in order followed by the repairs. If not, call a mason or a plumber and give them the list. For those looking for ultimate safety, hiring a leak detection company to come and find hidden water leaks, such as walls or beneath the foundations of the slab.
